In broad terms, there are a number of stages to building your home. The following list of stages and items for each stage, will help you better understand the process.
Planning
- How large is your family?

Financing & Approval
- Final plans and finishing schedule
- Submission to a lender and qualification
- Submission to the subdivision architectural approval committee
- Appraisal and loan approval
Foundation
- Site preparation, clearing, engineering
- Permitting with governmental authority
- Forming of foundation
- Installation of plumbing and electrical slab components
- Pouring of foundation
Framing
- Construction of exterior and interior walls
- Roof
- Exterior windows and doors
- Rough in of mechanical (plumbing, electrical, Htg. and AC)
- Insulation (exterior walls)
- Brick and exterior siding
Preliminary Finishing
- Hang sheetrock (ie, drywall) tape and finish walls
- Install cabinets
- Install interior trim (crown mold, baseboard interior door units)
- Install ceramic and wood flooring
- Painting
- Marble vanities
Trim Out and Completion
- Form, grade and pour walks and drives
- Sod and landscape
- Mechanical trim outs (plumbing and electrical fixtures installed)
- Carpet and final floor installation
- Hardware installed on cabinets, doors, etc.
- Final house cleaning
- Utilities on
- Move in to your custom-built home
