In 1956 Larry Jordan built a home for his wife, Gay, and himself. He didn't know he was laying the first stone of a tradition. Since that first experience in building and eventually selling his first home, Larry Jordan's name has been synonymous with style, quality and, the true flavor of south Louisiana, due largely to the fact that he has never really changed that original concept of building homes "for himself."

With accomplishments that include developments like The Original Colonies, Cobblestone, Afton and Wayside (where he designed and built all or most of the homes) and scores of distinctive individual homes, his reputation has grown to almost legendary proportions among home owners, realtors and the critical press.

Journalist Jerry Wallace, who covered the housing industry in Baton Rouge for 25 years, has deemed him "one of the best you'll ever find in capturing the essence of Louisiana in board, brick and mortar."

A graduate of Baton Rouge High School and L.S.U., Jordan says his real education has come from 40 years of input from the people who live in the homes he builds. "That, after all, is what you really need to know."

Tradition, comfort and quality are important concepts to Jordan. That is certainly true in the case of Jordan Traditions, a company formed by Larry, his only son, Alan, and joined more recently by his son-in-law, Clay Devlin.

Exposed to building from an early age, Alan grew up working summers in the various crafts and built, with his father's assistance, a small house for sale the summer he was graduated from high school. While completing L.S.U. curricula in business and law, Alan Jordan built a total of seven more homes. As he developed a law practice, he built three homes for his family.

Then, while still operating his law firm, he approached Larry with his desire to build homes as well, and Jordan Traditions LLC was born. The year was 1998. A year later Clay joined the building business. A New Orleans native, Clay earned a degree in marketing from L.S.U. and brings 17 years of major business experience to the firm.

Together, the three now collaborate not only on business but on ideas, concepts, and, of course, how to best create what Larry Jordan has always been known for: very fine homes built with the comfort of quality.

One has only to enter one of the homes they have built for their families to recognize what matters: beauty, comfort, a reverence for the heritage of Louisiana and American style, very particular attention to detail and quality in every aspect of construction.

Those same values are found in everything they design and build.
It's a tradition.
